The streets in Upper Mount Royal curve and slope in ways most of Calgary doesn't — this neighbourhood predates the grid, and it shows. Earl Grey School anchors the morning routine, with kids walking to class in a way that's less common this close to downtown. For groceries, the Safeway over in Cliff Bungalow is a short walk downhill; for everything else, Route 7 runs south into the livelier stretch of the southwest. Mount Royal School gives families a through-line from elementary through junior high without leaving the neighbourhood. The walk downtown is doable, but the streets feel removed from it — quieter, more settled, with enough mature trees and wide lots that the core feels farther than it is.
